Organized 21 December 1849 at New York, New York, from new and existing companies of volunteers as the 1st Irish Regiment

Mustered into the New York State Militia 29 May 1850 as the 9th Regiment

Consolidated 14 March 1858 with the 75th Regiment (organized September-December 1852 at New York from new and existing companies of volunteers as the Republican Rifles [4th Irish Regiment] and mustered into the New York State Militia 19 December 1854 as the 75th Regiment) and consolidated unit designated as the 9th Regiment.

Consolidated 3 May 1858 with the 69th Regiment (organized 12 October 1851 at New York from new and existing companies as the 2d Irish Regiment and mustered into the New York State Militia 1 November 1851 as the 69th Regiment) and consolidated and designated as the 69th Regiment

Mustered into Federal service 9 May 1861 at Washington, D.C.; mustered out of Federal service 3 August 1861 at New York

(While remaining in state service the 69th Regiment formed the nucleus of the 69th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment; mustered into Federal service 7 September- 17 November 1861 at New York and mustered out of Federal service 30 June 1865 at Alexandria, Virginia)

(New York State Militia redesignated 23 April 1862 as the New York National Guard)

Mustered into Federal service 26 May 1862 at New York; mustered out of Federal service 3 September 1862 at New York

Reorganized 15 March 1899 in the New York National Guard at New York as the 69th Infantry Regiment

Mustered into Federal service 6 July 1916 at Camp Whitman, New York; mustered out of Federal service 9 March 1917 at New York

Mustered into Federal service 24 July 1917 at New York; drafted into Federal service 5 August 1917

Reorganized and redesignated 25 July 1917 as the 165th Infantry and assigned to the 42d Division

Assigned 20 June 1940 to the 27th Division (later redesignated as the 27th Infantry Division)

Reorganized and Federally recognized 10 April 1947 with Headquarters at New York

Relieved 17 May 1947 from assignment to the 27th Infantry Division and assigned to the 42d Infantry Division

Reorganized 16 March 1959 as a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System to consist of the 1st Battle Group, an element of the 42d Infantry Division

Reorganized and redesignated 15 April 1963 as the 69th Infantry to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 42d Infantry Division

(1st and 2d Battalions ordered into active Federal service 24 March 1970 at home stations; released 30 March 1970 from active Federal service and reverted to state control)

Reorganized 1 April 1975 to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 42d Infantry Division

Withdrawn 1 May 1989 from the Combat Arms Regimental System and reorganized under the United States Army Regimental System

Converted and redesignated 1 September 1993 as the 69th Air Defense Artillery to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 42d Infantry Division

Converted and redesignated 1 October 1996 as the 69th Infantry to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 42d Infantry Division
